Duran explains emotional outburst after failed sac fly: 'I f-----g suck'

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran let his emotions get the best of him during the sixth inning of Thursday's 5-4 win over the Athletics.

Duran took out his frustrations over a failed sac fly on teammate Willson Contreras and interim third base coach Chad Epperson. The 29-year-old could be seen screaming and gesturing toward the pair after Contreras was held at third base on a fly ball that only traveled 245 feet.

The NESN broadcast caught Contreras making a face at Duran in the dugout after the Red Sox failed to score in the inning.

Contreras, who wound up hitting the game-winning home run in the eighth inning, later explained that he had no hard feelings toward Duran for how he reacted in the sixth.

"I saw him doing some stuff, but I would not take that personally. I love the guy, and we need the guy here. We need his energy, and I don't know, I haven't talked to him yet, but it's nothing personal," Contreras said postgame, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.

Duran acknowledged his frustration as well, explaining that his down year has been getting to him. He's hitting .195/.252/.337 after receiving downballot MVP votes just two seasons ago.

"Yeah, I f-----g suck," Duran said. "Of course I'm pissed at myself. I can't even do a f-----g job for this team."
