The St. Louis Cardinals traded pitchers Dustin May and JoJo Romero to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor-league outfielders Alexander Frías and Josiah Ragsdale, the teams announced Monday.
May owns a 4.38 ERA and 3.14 FIP in 21 starts, throwing 109 innings this season. His 97-mph fastball ranks in the 94th percentile in run value and 84th percentile in velocity.
The 28-year-old right-hander will provide the Brewers with additional starting depth this season. May's contract includes a $20-million mutual option for 2027.
The left-handed Romero has been a key piece of the Cardinals' bullpen, fashioning a 3.35 ERA and 9.0 K/9 in 44 appearances in 2026. He'll give an already strong Brewers bullpen (3.64 ERA) another weapon for manager Pat Murphy.
The 29-year-old Romero has pitched better against right-handed hitters this campaign, holding them to a .640 OPS compared to an .810 OPS against left-handed hitters.
Frías was the Brewers' No. 11-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The 18-year-old slashed .441/.518/.678 with 34 RBIs and 12 steals in the Arizona Complex League this season.
The 22-year-old Ragsdale is Milwaukee's No. 13-ranked prospect. The New Jersey native owns a 1.022 OPS with 51 RBIs and 31 steals in the minors this campaign.
