Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman wants to see more consistency from his team amid an up-and-down start to the season.

"We feel like we take four steps forward and two steps back," Gausman said following Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. "We really haven't hit our stride yet."

The Blue Jays (29-32) dropped their third straight game after getting back to .500 on Saturday. Toronto is 8-12 in one-run contests in 2026.

"You feel confident in the group, but we've just got to play a little better," Gausman said. "And that includes me. … But everybody needs to just be a little better, be a little more consistent. I'd say that's the biggest thing we're chasing is consistency."

Gausman also acknowledged that he could've performed better versus the Braves. The 35-year-old allowed four earned runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over six innings to take the loss.

"I need to pitch better," he added. "I can't give up two runs in the first (inning) on the road in the first game of a series."

The Blue Jays sit 8.5 games behind the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays and one game out of the final wild-card spot despite being decimated by injuries this year.
