Milwaukee Brewers reliever Abner Uribe was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his crotch-chop gesture toward the St. Louis Cardinals' dugout following a strikeout in Tuesday's game, MLB announced Friday.

Uribe is appealing his ban, which means he can play until the matter is resolved.

The 25-year-old made the lewd celebration after getting Alec Burleson looking with two runners on to end the eighth inning in the Brewers' 6-0 win.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy condemned Uribe's behavior, calling the gesture "unacceptable."

Uribe apologized to his teammates, coaches, executives, and fans. However, the right-hander didn't show any sympathy toward the Cardinals, claiming their manager, Oliver Marmol, was "making signs toward our dugout saying that he's going to be hitting guys."

Marmol responded on Wednesday, indicating he had warned the Brewers about relaying signs.

"I looked over, and I said, 'Hey, you gotta do it, be smart, you're gonna get somebody hurt,'" Marmol said, according to Rich Rovito of The Associated Press. "Like what we trying to do here? That was it."

The 39-year-old skipper added that there was also an incident with another member of the Brewers' coaching staff before Tuesday's game about the sign-relaying issue.

The two division rivals meet next for a four-game series in St. Louis starting July 6.
