New York Yankees players recently presented the idea of wearing alternate jerseys for the first time in franchise history to the team's higher-ups, sources told The Athletic's Brendan Kuty.

The players suggested the Yankees wear their navy blue batting practice jerseys that say "New York" on the front for some road games, Kuty reports. The Yankees normally wear gray road uniforms.

Players reportedly didn't suggest any changes for home games, where the team wears its traditional white uniforms with blue pinstripes, or any tweaks to the usual road uniforms.

The Yankees have never used an official alternate jersey and are one of two teams in MLB that doesn't have a City Connect uniform. The Athletics are the other.

The Yankees are also the only team in the majors that doesn't have names on the back of their jerseys.
