Mets place Polanco on IL with wrist contusion
The New York Mets placed infielder/designated hitter Jorge Polanco on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right wrist contusion.
New York subsequently called up catcher Hayden Senger from Triple-A Syracuse.
Polanco was kept out of the lineup Friday after undergoing an MRI. He last played Tuesday in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 0-for-4 at the plate with two strikeouts.
"Wednesday he came in and didn't think much of it, but just didn't get better," manager Carlos Mendoza said Friday, according to MLB.com's Jackson Stone. "So we sent him for an MRI yesterday on the off-day here in Chicago, and we're still waiting. We got multiple people taking a look at him."
The wrist ailment is the latest setback for Polanco, who has been dealing with left Achilles bursitis since the start of the season.
Polanco entered the campaign with plenty of expectations after the Mets signed him to a two-year, $40-million contract in free agency.
The Mets are off to a sluggish start and are also playing without Juan Soto (calf strain) and Jared Young (torn left meniscus).
New York enters Saturday in last place in the NL East with a 7-13 mark and are mired in a nine-game losing skid.
