PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies rookie starting pitcher Andrew Painter entered in the third inning of his scheduled outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Painter did not start as expected because of a migraine. He was replaced by Zach Pop, who gave up three hits and one run, an RBI double to James McCann.

Painter entered the game 1-0 with a 4.82 ERA and is making his third big-league appearance.

Painter, who turned 23 on Friday, was selected No. 13 overall by the Phillies in the 2021 amateur draft. He hurt his elbow during spring training in 2023 and had Tommy John surgery later that year.

He won his big-league debut on April 1, allowing one run and five hits over 5 1/3 innings against Washington with eight strikeouts and one walk.
