The Milwaukee Brewers bolstered their infield Friday by signing veteran Luis Rengifo to a one-year contract, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Rengifo will earn a base salary of $3.5 million in 2026, Feinsand reports, citing a source. The deal also includes up to $1.5 million in performance incentives and a $10-million mutual option for 2027.

The 28-year-old immediately becomes a candidate to start at third base every day for Milwaukee, which recently traded 2025 NL Rookie of the Year finalist Caleb Durbin to Boston in a multi-player deal. Rengifo split time between second and third almost evenly with the Los Angeles Angels last season, tallying minus-5 defensive runs saved and minus-7 outs above average across 567 2/3 innings at the hot corner.

His defensive versatility could also allow Brewers manager Pat Murphy to mix and match lineups throughout the year. Rengifo's primarily played second base in the majors but has also started games at third, shortstop, and all three outfield spots. He joins a Brewers infield corps that also includes Brice Turang, Joey Ortiz, non-roster invitee Eddys Leonard, and newcomer David Hamilton, who was acquired in the Durbin trade.

Rengifo's a lifetime .250/.307/.382 hitter with 62 homers, 230 RBIs, and 52 stolen bases across parts of seven big-league seasons, all with the Angels. His best offensive campaign came in 2022, when he put up a .724 OPS with a personal-best 17 home runs in 511 plate appearances.

The Venezuela native is looking to rebound at the plate in 2026 after hitting a career-low .238/.287/.335 with the Halos last summer.
