Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday will start the 2026 season on the injured list, the club said Wednesday, according to MASN's Roch Kubatko.
He'll undergo surgery Thursday for a broken right hamate bone, Kubatko adds.
Team president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Holliday suffered the injury Feb. 6, one day after the club traded for infielder Blaze Alexander, per Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun.
Corbin Carroll and Francisco Lindor are other notable MLB players dealing with hamate injuries to start spring training.
Holliday hit .242/.314/.375 with 17 home runs and 17 stolen bases last season. The 22-year-old was projected to be Baltimore's Opening Day leadoff hitter in 2026.
Alexander and Jeremiah Jackson are among the candidates to open the season at second base until Holliday returns.
The Orioles selected Holliday with the No. 1 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
