Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was disappointed to find out he won't be teammates anymore with his close friend Bo Bichette.
Bichette reportedly agreed to a three-year, $126-million deal with the New York Mets on Friday after spending the first seven years of his MLB career with Guerrero on the Blue Jays.
"I feel sad after playing with him for so many years, but like I've always said, this is a business, and you have to look out for what's best for you and your family," Guerrero told Hazel Mae of Sportsnet.
Guerrero and Bichette first teamed up in Toronto's minor-league system in 2017 before making their debuts during the 2019 campaign.
"I wish him the best," Guerrero added. "We won't be teammates anymore, but our friendship will last forever."
Bichette said in September 2024 that he wanted to suit up with Guerrero for the rest of their careers.
"When I had time to think about what I want, basically, my ultimate goal really is to play with Vladdy forever, to win a championship with him, and to do that with this organization," Bichette said at the time.
The star duo helped Toronto reach the postseason on four different occasions, including a run to the 2025 World Series after winning its first AL East title since 2015.
