The Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Texas Rangers are interested in acquiring two-time All-Star closer David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates before Thursday's trade deadline, reports Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pirates want another team's top-five prospect, at the very least, as a return for Bednar, sources told Hiles.
Pittsburgh and the Toronto Blue Jays have also talked about different trade scenarios involving a Pirates reliever, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Detroit's bullpen ranks 26th in baseball with a combined 0.7 fWAR. Bednar alone owns a 1.3 fWAR this season.
Texas has blown the fifth-most saves with 18, while Philadelphia's leader in saves is Jordan Romano, who has eight but owns a ghastly 6.99 ERA in 2025.
Bednar has authored a 2.37 ERA, 1.96 FIP, and 17 saves with a career-high 12.1 K/9 over 42 appearances this season. The 30-year-old is arbitration-eligible through the 2026 campaign.
