Report: Padres continue to show interest in Jarren Duran
The San Diego Padres are still interested in trading for Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, sources told Dennis Lin of The Athletic.
The Red Sox may still consider moving Duran for the right price even though the club's riding a 10-game winning streak heading into the All-Star break, notes Lin.
Boston has a logjam in its outfield with three starting spots available for Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, and No. 1 prospect Roman Anthony. Following a slow start to his MLB career, Anthony has turned things around by slashing .373/.439/.525 with a homer and eight RBIs over his last 15 games.
The Padres reportedly eyed Duran earlier this season after first inquiring about the 28-year-old prior to the 2024 campaign.
Duran has eight homers and an MLB-high 10 triples with 50 RBIs, 16 stolen bases, and a .749 OPS across 97 games this year. The 2024 All-Star owns a $8-million club option for 2026 and is arbitration-eligible in 2027 and 2028.
The Red Sox have shown they aren't afraid to clear up playing time for their promising young players and prospects, as evident by the Rafael Devers blockbuster deal with the San Francisco Giants in mid-June.
The July 31 trade deadline is just over two weeks away.
