The Toronto Blue Jays placed first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the seven-day injured list due to a concussion after exiting Friday's win over the New York Yankees following a collision.
Guerrero collided with Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. at third base during the sixth inning of the 3-1 victory. After an errant throw got away from Lombard, he turned to chase after the ball, which resulted in his left knee hitting the Blue Jays star in the face.
"He had a headache last night. I think it's one of those where the doctors wanted to see how he woke up today," manager John Schneider said, according to MLB.com's Max Ralph.
The concussion is just the latest setback for Guerrero this season. He has also missed time recently with hamstring tightness.
The All-Star infielder is in the midst of a down year, slashing .263/.337/.356 with seven home runs and 47 RBIs over 115 games in 2026.
Charles McAdoo will start at first base Saturday against New York. Third baseman Kazuma Okamoto could be another option at fill the void left by Guerrero.
The Blue Jays selected outfielder Daz Cameron in a corresponding move ahead of Saturday's matchup against the Yankees. Toronto designated right-handed reliever Lazaro Estrada for assignment to make room for Cameron on the roster. Prized pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann was also recalled Saturday.
