Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer will be activated from the injured list to pitch in Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians.

"That's a huge, huge addition for us. It's Max Scherzer. I'll take that any day of the week," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Sunday, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.

Scherzer has been sidelined with a recurring thumb issue since March 30.

The 40-year-old pitched well in his most recent rehab start, striking out eight over 4 1/3 shutout innings at Triple-A, but experienced thumb soreness following the outing.

Scherzer threw between 30-40 pitches during a bullpen session Sunday and appeared to be happy with the results and how he felt afterward.

"My stuff is fine," he told Sportsnet's Hazel Mae. "I'm trying everything I can to manage this (thumb) and make sure I can recover. ... There's no knowing, just have to get out there."

Scherzer signed a one-year, $15.5-million deal with the Blue Jays in February. He's thrown three big-league innings for Toronto this season.
