Yankees reinstate Chisholm, place Weaver on IL amid roster moves
The New York Yankees reinstated infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. and right-handed reliever Fernando Cruz from the injured list during a roster shuffle Tuesday, the team announced.
Chisholm hasn't appeared in a game for the Yankees since April 29 because of a high-grade oblique strain. The 27-year-old was hitting .181/.304/.410 with seven home runs and 17 RBIs in 30 games before he landed on the IL.
He's played all of his games at second base this season, but he could provide the Yankees with an option at third upon his return.
Cruz has been terrific for the Yankees during his first campaign with the club. The 35-year-old owns a 2.66 ERA and 13.3 K/9 in 21 appearances after being acquired in an offseason trade from the Cincinnati Reds.
The Yankees also placed closer Luke Weaver on the 15-day IL with a left hamstring strain, recalled right-hander Yerry de los Santos, optioned infielder Jorbit Vivas to Triple-A, and designated right-hander Carlos Carrasco for assignment Tuesday.
