Phillies trade Gilbert to White Sox for minor leaguer
The Philadelphia Phillies traded reliever Tyler Gilbert to the Chicago White Sox for minor-league pitcher Aaron Combs, the clubs announced Wednesday.
The Phillies designated Gilbert for assignment on Dec. 22. He made six appearances out of their bullpen in 2024, pitching to a 3.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with four strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings.
The 31-year-old lefty famously threw a no-hitter in his first MLB start with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021.
Chicago selected Combs in the eighth round of the 2024 draft out of the University of Tennessee. He allowed zero earned runs across six appearances at Single-A with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.
The White Sox designated infielder Braden Shewmake for assignment in a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster.
