The Los Angeles Dodgers have retained a big piece of their bullpen, signing veteran reliever Blake Treinen to a two-year, $22-million contract, a source told Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston.
The 36-year-old missed all of 2023 because of a shoulder injury but emerged as a critical weapon for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts after returning in early May. Treinen posted a 1.93 ERA, 2.99 fielding independent pitching, and 0.94 WHIP along with 56 strikeouts and a 10.8 K/9 rate across 46 2/3 innings.
He then enjoyed an excellent October, putting up a 2.19 ERA and 0.76 FIP with 18 strikeouts and three saves over nine appearances during the Dodgers' run to the World Series title. Treinen was masterful in the clinching Game 5 at Yankee Stadium, gutting out 2 1/3 scoreless innings to save a tired bullpen and earn the win.
The Dodgers' reunion with Treinen comes a few hours after they reportedly added outfielder Michael Conforto in free agency. L.A. also signed two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell earlier this offseason.
