Athletics franchise officially drops Oakland from branding
The Oakland Athletics are no more.
Beginning Monday, the MLB franchise requested to be referred to exclusively as the Athletics or A's, according to branding guidelines acquired by The Athletic's Evan Drellich. The team's abbreviation also switched from OAK to ATH.
The A's will play in West Sacramento at Sutter Health Park, but there was no mention of the city being connected to the club's branding.
The team's new primary logo is a green "A's" mark, but the primary wordmark of "Athletics" in green script remains unchanged.
The A's will play their 2025-2027 seasons in West Sacramento before moving to Las Vegas in 2028 after spending 1968-2024 in Oakland.
The franchise's last game in Oakland took place Sept. 26. In the emotional farewell, the A's defeated the Texas Rangers.
