The San Fransisco Giants placed star first baseman Rafael Devers on the 60-day injured list with a core muscle injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season, the club announced Sunday.
The Giants added that Devers will see a specialist, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Manager Tony Vitello said the issue has bothered Devers for years and that he's expected to have surgery Tuesday. The skipper also acknowledged that the club has known about the injury for a while and waited as long as possible to address it.
Devers, who missed only one game this season before landing on the IL, has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball following the All-Star break. From July 14 onward, he slashed .275/.376/.611 with an MLB-leading 46 RBIs. His 18 homers are second to only Pete Crow-Armstrong during that span.
The 29-year-old finishes with 37 homers, 98 RBIs, and an .865 OPS over 148 games in 2026.
