White Sox decline $25M option on Moncada

The Chicago White Sox announced Friday they declined third baseman Yoán Moncada's $25-million option for 2025.

Chicago will be on the hook for a $5-million buyout by not bringing back Moncada, who is now a free agent.

Moncada, who only played in 12 games in 2024 due to an adductor strain, has been a member of the White Sox since 2017 after being a key piece in the Chris Sale trade with the Boston Red Sox.

The 29-year-old came to Chicago as the top-ranked prospect in baseball and spent eight years with the club, slashing .254/.331/.424 with 93 homers and 339 RBIs over 747 games. His best season came in 2019 when he went deep 25 times with a .915 OPS and 5.2 fWAR over 132 contests. However, he's logged a combined 208 games due to injuries across the last three years.

Chicago also declined a $7.5-million club option on veteran catcher Max Stassi for next season. The 33-year-old's buyout is $500,000.
