Umpire carted off after getting hit in neck by Stanton's broken bat

Home plate umpire Nick Mahrley was carted off the field with a neck brace after Giancarlo Stanton's broken bat struck him during the fifth inning of Sunday's game between the New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies.

After undergoing tests, Mahrley was diagnosed with a concussion and will miss at least his next scheduled series, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

"That was bad. (I) just saw it by the replay," Stanton said after the Yankees' 10-3 win, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. "(He) took it like a champ, though. When I was in the box, I didn't hear anything, a groan or anything. Took it like a champ."

Mahrley, 41, is in his second season as a full-time MLB umpire. He first reached the majors as a fill-in arbiter in 2017.

Crew chief Marvin Hudson replaced Mahrley behind the plate after the injury.
