New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone doesn't feel good about his team's recent stretch of poor play, which includes 16 losses in its last 22 games.
"It feels terrible," Boone said after the Yankees fell to the Boston Red Sox 3-0 on Sunday, according to YES Network.
"You gotta be a little sick to be in this game, though, and you've got to be able to weather it."
New York couldn't muster a single run against Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford during Sunday's loss and was only able to record four hits in the contest. The team also struggled to contain Rafael Devers, who hit two homers in the game and has a history of tormenting the Yankees.
It's been a rough stretch for the Yankees after they got off to a terrific start. New York ended the month of May with a 40-19 record, good for a two-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles for top position in the American League East.
But the Yankees barely played above .500 in June (14-13) and have been terrible this month, winning one of five games. They presently sit three games behind the Orioles.
"You'd like your stretch, where it's a bump in the road, to not have it be this kind of a stretch," Boone said. "You'd like to weather it a little bit better, which we need to do, obviously. It's all right there in front of us."
Following an off-day on Monday, the Yankees begin a six-game road trip to Tampa Bay and Baltimore before the All-Star break begins.
