Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was ejected from Sunday's game against the New York Mets after a seething confrontation with umpires.

The veteran infielder was frustrated after he was ruled out on a ball he appeared to have fouled off his foot. He proceeded to slam his helmet and bat to the ground and yelled at the crew.

Altuve grimaced after hitting a ball near his foot in the seventh inning. The ball rolled toward Mets third baseman Mark Vientos, who scooped it up and threw it to first base. Altuve never left the batter's box.

Altuve was replaced at second base by Mauricio Dubón, who began the contest in left field. Chas McCormick replaced Dubón in left.

The 2024 campaign has been a frustrating one for the Astros, who entered Sunday 3 1/2 games out of a playoff spot thanks to a heavily injured roster.
