The Chicago Cubs signed right-hander Jorge López to a minor-league deal, according to the team's transaction page.
López was released by the New York Mets on June 5 after controversially throwing his glove into the stands following a May 29 ejection.
Following the ejection, López appeared to call the Mets "the worst team in the whole f-----g MLB," but later clarified he was referring to himself as "the worst teammate" for what he did.
The 31-year-old owned a 3.76 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 28 appearances for the Mets before his release.
López, a former closer with the Baltimore Orioles, is the owner of 29 career saves in 258 appearances across nine seasons.
The Cubs entered play Wednesday with a bullpen ERA of 4.47, good for 24th in the league. Chicago has three important relievers (Yency Almonte, Adbert Alzolay, Julian Merryweather) on the injured list.
