New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres believes his team took one on the chin after dropping three of four games in its first series against the Baltimore Orioles this season.

"We got punched in the face," Torres said following Thursday's 7-2 loss to the AL East rivals, according to Erik Boland of Newsday. "We've got three more so we have to figure out a way to beat them."

The Orioles pulled away with a four-run fifth inning that was extended by Torres' third error of the season. The 27-year-old dropped the ball trying to make a barehand play to start what could've been a double play.

"That type of error, there's no excuse," Torres said.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that Torres might have been trying to do too much on the play.

"He's got to secure the ball," Boone said, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. "It's the big leagues, you've got to make the play, and he didn't make the play. I don't know if he was trying to do too much. ... He's made that play a lot. He didn't in that spot."

The skipper was impressed with the Orioles, who are poised to be a major threat this season.

"They can pitch," Boone said, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. "They're athletic. They got thump. They're a complete team that you gotta play well (against). (We) know they're gonna be there all year long and look forward to more battles with them. They're certainly formidable."
