Baseball's top prospect Jackson Holliday made his major-league debut for the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, and while his first game didn't go well from a stats perspective, the 20-year-old was thrilled with the experience.
"It's all I could have asked for," Holliday said, according to The Athletic's Stephen J. Nesbitt. "Playing in the big leagues. A stadium full of fans. Two really good teams. I can't ask for more - except for maybe like four hits."
Holliday went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and an RBI groundout during Baltimore's 7-5 win over the Boston Red Sox.
The youngster, who started at second base, also failed to make a basket catch with his back to the infield but did turn a smooth double play in the second inning with fellow budding star Gunnar Henderson.
Holliday admitted to getting around three hours of sleep after learning of his call-up and was mostly running on adrenaline prior to his debut, which was attended by his father, former big-leaguer Matt Holliday.
"It's been quite the day," Jackson said, "but I wouldn't change it for anything."
The Orioles play the Red Sox on Thursday at Fenway Park before returning home to Camden Yards for a weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers. The first 15,000 fans aged 15 and over to enter the ballpark before Friday's game will receive a Holliday debut T-shirt.
