Baltimore Orioles closer Félix Bautista will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in the next few weeks, general manager Mike Elias announced Saturday, according to The Washington Post's Chelsea Janes.

The All-Star reliever will likely be out through the 2024 campaign.

Elias added that Bautista tried to return for the playoffs, but they "ran out of time."

The right-hander hasn't pitched since late August due to a UCL injury.

The Orioles and Bautista also agreed to terms on a two-year deal through 2025, according to Janes.

Left-hander John Means signed a similar two-year contract with the team after he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022.

Bautista posted a 1.48 ERA with 16.2 K/9 and 33 saves over 56 games during a sensational 2023 season for the AL East champions.
