The slumping San Diego Padres might be open for business.
The Padres entered play Thursday 6.5 games out of a wild-card spot in the National League and are listening to trade offers for outfielder Juan Soto, starting pitcher Blake Snell, and closer Josh Hader, sources told Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Despite dropping a series at home to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Padres are still hoping to be buyers ahead of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, according to Heyman.
The Padres acquired Soto in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Nationals at last season's trade deadline. The 24-year-old isn't scheduled to reach free agency until the conclusion of the 2024 campaign.
Soto struggled after the trade, posting a .778 OPS in 52 games for the Padres last season. The slugger is rebounding nicely so far in 2023, registering a .918 OPS with 20 home runs, 62 RBIs, and a league-leading 95 walks across 103 games.
Snell and Hader are both scheduled to hit free agency following the season. Snell leads all MLB starting pitchers with a 2.61 ERA, while Hader ranks fourth in the National League with 24 saves and owns a microscopic 0.95 ERA.
