Pittsburgh Pirates designated hitter Andrew McCutchen doesn't want to be traded after signing a one-year deal with the team he suited up for during the first nine seasons of his career.
"I've vocalized how I felt about being here and the reason why I came back. That stance hasn't changed," McCutchen said Tuesday, according to Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I still want to be here regardless. At the same time, that's out of my control. I can't control that. That's not my call.
"It's not like I have a no-trade clause or anything like that. That's not on me. All I can say is where I want to be. At the end of the day, that has nothing to do with where I end up."
McCutchen added that he doesn't know if the Pirates would ask for his permission to be dealt before the Aug. 1 trade deadline.
"I have no idea," McCutchen said. "I don't really know. I'm just trying to focus on the now. The what-ifs and all that, that could just drive you into the ground and make you go crazy, so I honestly don't think about it."
McCutchen, who's enjoying his best offensive season since 2019 for the slumping Pirates, has already been linked to the Texas Rangers. However, Rangers general manager Chris Young poured cold water on the rumblings.
"I saw there was a rumor out there today regarding an offensive player that, I mean literally, we've had zero contact with that team, so where that rumor came from, it really is amazing to me that those things get floated like that," Young told 105.3 The FAN.
