Report: Twins agree to 1-year deal with Donovan Solano
The Minnesota Twins agreed to a one-year contract with veteran infielder Donovan Solano, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Financial terms of the deal, which is pending a physical, are not yet known.
Solano adds more versatility to a Twins bench that already includes fellow infielder Kyle Farmer, plus outfielders Trevor Larnach and Michael A. Taylor. Manager Rocco Baldelli can utilize him in a number of roles, as he has experience playing all four infield positions in the majors.
The 35-year-old, who will represent Colombia at next month's World Baseball Classic, hit .284/.339/.385 in a part-time role with the Cincinnati Reds last year. His best season came during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign with the San Francisco Giants, when he broke out to post a .828 OPS en route to winning a Silver Slugger.
Over parts of nine big-league seasons with four teams, Solano is a lifetime .278/.327/.374 hitter with 27 home runs and 206 RBIs.
Minnesota has revamped its infield this offseason, trading reigning AL batting champion Luis Arraez to Miami while bringing in Farmer - a teammate of Solano's in Cincinnati last season - and re-signing star shortstop Carlos Correa.
