Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Stephen Strasburg isn't in spring training after suffering a setback following a bullpen session and that there's no timetable for the right-hander to join camp, according to The Washington Post's Jesse Dougherty.
Martinez added that Strasburg said he felt his nerve issue return after throwing off a mound a few weeks ago in D.C., per MASN's Mark Zuckerman.
"I know in his heart, he wants to pitch," Martinez said Wednesday, according to Zuckerman.
The three-time All-Star underwent surgery to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome in summer 2021. He's been dealing with complications following the procedure and only pitched once last season.
Strasburg has only made eight starts since signing a seven-year, $245-million contract in December 2019. The now-34-year-old was named World Series MVP that year after leading Washington to a title. He logged a career-high 245 1/3 innings between the regular season and playoffs.
