San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said during a Zoom meeting with players and coaches Thursday that he's to blame for the Carlos Correa deal falling through, sources told Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Zaidi reportedly told players that he believes in the current group, though many questions were left unanswered.
Some players left the meeting still wondering how the Correa deal fell apart right before he was to be publicly introduced during a press conference Tuesday, according to Pavlovic.
Correa agreed to a 13-year, $350-million pact with the Giants on Dec. 13. However, the deal hit a snag over a difference of opinion about the medical results of the two-time All-Star's physical. The star shortstop reportedly ended up joining the New York Mets on a 12-year, $315-million contract Wednesday.
The Giants were reportedly concerned about Correa's lower right leg, which was surgically repaired in 2014 after he fractured his fibula during a minor-league game.
Scott Boras, who's Correa's agent, said there's "no current issue" with his health.
Correa took his physical with the Mets on Thursday. The results won't be known until Friday.
