Boras: Dodgers' previous issues with Astros shouldn't prevent Correa signing

Carlos Correa's agent Scott Boras doesn't think previous bad blood between the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers will prevent his client from signing with the National League West champions this offseason.

"I don't think anybody cares about what happened years ago and has been remedied," Boras said, according to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett. "With their owners, they have to win, and it's not easy to win. You can't let anything get in the way."

The Dodgers are on the hunt for a shortstop this offseason, with last year's starter Trea Turner becoming a free agent. Correa, Turner, Xander Bogaerts, and Dansby Swanson are the top players available at the position in free agency.

Dodgers officials are wary of signing Correa because they're unsure if fans would accept the shortstop in Los Angeles, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Correa was a member of the 2017 Astros, who defeated the Dodgers in the World Series. MLB later found that the team illegally stole signs throughout the season.

Dodgers players expressed displeasure with that Astros team after the league's investigation revealed they cheated.

"Everyone knows they stole the ring from us," outfielder Cody Bellinger said in 2020.

Correa is a free agent for the second consecutive season after opting out of his contract with the Minnesota Twins.

The 28-year-old is a gifted defender, who owns a .279/.357/.479 slash line with 155 home runs and 553 RBIs in eight seasons.

He's also been terrific in the postseason, recording 18 homers and 59 RBIs throughout his career.
