Giants 'fully anticipate' Rodon will opt out of deal

The San Francisco Giants are preparing to search for a starting pitcher this offseason.

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said he expects left-hander Carlos Rodon to opt out of the remainder of his contract.

"Obviously we fully anticipate Carlos to opt out and that will create an opening on our pitching staff," Zaidi said Friday, according to The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly.

The 29-year-old Rodon signed a two-year, $44-million deal with the Giants before the 2022 season.

He was able to opt out of the second year of his contract if he pitched 110 innings this year. Rodon threw a career-high 178.

The two-time All-Star put together a Cy Young-caliber season for the Giants, posting a 14-8 record with a 2.88 ERA, 2.25 FIP, and 12.0 K/9 in 31 starts.
