San Francisco Giants legend Buster Posey is now a member of the club's ownership group, the team announced Wednesday.
Posey, who shocked the baseball world last year by retiring at age 34 after his seventh All-Star campaign, is the first former Giants player to become a principal partner with the team and board of directors member.
"I feel deeply connected to the Giants and the San Francisco Bay Area and hope that my perspective as a former player will be beneficial in growing the game and assisting the organization to build the next championship team both on and off the field," Posey said in a statement.
The 2012 NL MVP finished his 12-season career with a .302/.372/.460 slash line to go along with 158 home runs and 729 RBIs across 1,371 regular-season games. The former star catcher caught three no-hitters, including Matt Cain's perfect game in 2012.
Posey also played an integral role in helping San Francisco win three World Series titles.
