Braves' Albies back on IL with fractured finger after return from broken leg

The Atlanta Braves have placed second baseman Ozzie Albies on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right pinky finger, the team announced Sunday.

Atlanta recalled infielder Rylan Bannon from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

Albies did not need surgery to repair the break, but he'll wear a cast on his finger for the next three weeks and will miss the rest of the regular season, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com.

There's a possibility he could return during the playoffs if the Braves see sufficient progress once his cast comes off, notes Bowman.

The 25-year-old suffered the injury during a slide attempt in Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Vaughn Grissom replaced him in the fifth inning.

It's unfortunate luck for Albies and the Braves since the infielder just returned from a fractured foot on Friday after missing over three months because of the injury.

"I hate it for him," Braves manager Brian Snitker said, according to Bowman. "My heart breaks for him. After everything he went through to get back here, and then to have that happen, that's horrible. He was having fun and being the old Ozzie. He was playing ball. That's what he loves to do."

The two-time All-Star is amid a down year after hitting 30 home runs and 106 RBIs for Atlanta last season. He entered Saturday with eight homers, 35 RBIs, and a .695 OPS in 267 plate appearances.
