New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was named All-Star Game MVP after hitting the game-tying two-run homer at Dodger Stadium.
Stanton is just the third Yankees player to win the award, following Derek Jeter (2000) and Mariano Rivera (2013).
Stanton's home run traveled 457 feet into Dodger Stadium's left-field pavilion. He finished the day 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.
The 32-year-old earned the honor on his home turf, having grown up in the Los Angeles area. During the broadcast, Stanton - who played left field for the AL - said he attended many Dodgers games as a kid and sat in the left-field stands.
"I can't really explain how special this is. It's hard to put into words that this is reality right now," Stanton said, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. "It's really cool. I'm soaking it all in."
Stanton was voted in as a starter for the AL after a fantastic first half that saw him hit .237/.319/.516 with 24 home runs and 61 RBIs for the league-leading Yankees. This was his fifth career All-Star appearance but his first representing New York.
