The Washington Nationals are putting right-hander Stephen Strasburg back on the injured list after the pitcher reported discomfort in his bullpen session following a start on Thursday, manager Davey Martinez announced.
Martinez added Strasburg, who the team expected to start against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, underwent an MRI on Monday. The Nationals are still awaiting the results.
The oft-injured 33-year-old made his first start in more than a year on Thursday, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits to the Miami Marlins over 4 2/3 innings pitched.
The 2019 World Series MVP has only appeared in eight games due to injuries since inking a seven-year, $245-million contract to return to the Nationals in Dec. 2019.
