Los Angeles Angels first baseman Jared Walsh put the finishing touches on a cycle, recording an eighth-inning triple against the New York Mets on Saturday.

The triple capped off an evening where Walsh hit a third-inning single, crushed a double in the fifth, and hit a homer to right field in the seventh. In total, Walsh went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and added in a strikeout.

"I thought about it a little bit, but I just wanted to put the barrel on the ball," Walsh said of his at-bat in the eighth. "I was making pretty good contact, so I felt like if I got something over the plate, I might have a chance to drive it."

Walsh's efforts were instrumental in the 11-6 victory against the NL-best Mets. Mike Trout - who also recorded a cycle for the Angels back in 2013 - finished the game with the same amount of total bases as Walsh, hitting a pair of homers and a double.

It's the third cycle accomplished in 2022, with the most recent achievement coincidentally coming from the Mets' Eduardo Escobar. The infielder also finished it off with a triple - the rarest of the four base hits required for the feat. Milwaukee Brewers star Christian Yelich is the other to record a cycle this season.

Walsh is the eighth player in franchise history to hit for the cycle and the first since Shohei Ohtani managed it in 2019. It is the ninth cycle in the Angels record books, with Jim Fregosi hitting for two of them (1964, 1968).

"I yelled ‘cycle’ right when he dove. Cycles are more rare than a no-hitter, I've only seen one other one," interim manager Phil Nevin said.
