Cardinals to promote top prospects Gorman, Liberatore
The St. Louis Cardinals announced Thursday that they're calling up top prospects Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore while placing outfielder Tyler O'Neill on the injured list, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic.
Gorman - the club's No. 2-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline - will start for the Cardinals at second base Friday. Liberatore, who's the top pitching prospect and No. 3 overall in the organization, will make his MLB debut Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Gorman, 22, is slashing .308/.367/.677 with 15 homers over 34 games in Triple-A this season, while the 22-year-old Liberatore has a 3.83 ERA with 46 strikeouts over 40 innings at the same level.
Meanwhile, O'Neill has two homers with a .552 OPS this season after finishing eighth in NL MVP following a breakout 2021 campaign.
