San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. is OK after getting into a minor accident in the Dominican Republic, sources told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Tatis was taken to hospital for treatment but suffered only minor scrapes.

Details about the accident aren't yet available. A motorcycle was involved, though it's unclear if Tatis was the one using that vehicle, according to Acee, who cited a report from Dominican journalist Baudilio Jimenez.

The Padres are unable to comment on the incident because of Major League Baseball's ongoing lockout. While MLB players are locked out without a collective bargaining agreement, teams can't have contact with or comment on any of their players.

Tatis, 22, finished third in National League MVP voting this year after hitting .282/.364/.611 with an NL-high 42 homers in 130 games for the Padres. He signed a 14-year, $340-million extension with San Diego last spring.
