The Pittsburgh Pirates signed free-agent catcher Roberto Perez to a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday.
The deal is worth $5 million, according to Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic.
Perez will likely start for the Pirates after Gold Glove backstop Jacob Stallings was traded to the Miami Marlins on Monday.
The 32-year-old only played 44 games in 2021 due to multiple injuries. However, he hit 24 home runs with a .774 OPS during a career season in 2019. He's also won two Gold Gloves.
