The Atlanta Braves and reigning National League MVP Freddie Freeman have discussed a new contract but a gap remains between the two sides, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Atlanta and Freeman want to get a deal done, though, and are still likely to do so, Heyman adds.
Freeman, who's spent his entire 12-year career with the Braves, is slated to become a free agent at the end of the 2021 campaign.
The five-time All-Star is slashing .292/.388/.498 with 28 homers and 73 RBIs in 137 games for the NL East-leading Braves this season. The 31-year-old first baseman has gone deep 268 times with 362 doubles and 931 RBIs over 1,543 contests with Atlanta.
