Boras: Gallo wasn't looking for Harper money from Rangers before trade

It appears Joey Gallo wanted to get paid in a big way by the Texas Rangers before he was traded to the New York Yankees last week. However, his agent, Scott Boras, says he didn't demand Bryce Harper money.

The Rangers reportedly made Gallo a five-year offer worth $84 million in guaranteed money, which could've increased to more than $100 million through incentives. Boras said he responded to Texas' proposal with only a question, not a counteroffer.

"I asked where they saw Joey in relation to Elvis (Andrus) and Anthony Rendon," Boras said, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

The Rangers signed Andrus to an eight-year, $120-million extension before Opening Day in 2013. They reportedly offered Rendon close to $200 million before he signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 2019.

Harper, meanwhile, earned a 13-year, $330-million pact with the Philadelphia Phillies before the 2019 campaign.

Texas traded Gallo and left-hander Joely Rodriguez to the Yankees for four prospects after Boras didn't make a counteroffer.

Gallo, 27, has hit 145 home runs and owns an .830 OPS (116 OPS+) in seven big-league seasons. He's eligible for free agency in 2023.
