DeGrom suffers setback, may be out until September

New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom suffered a setback in his recovery from forearm tightness and is dealing with more inflammation in his right arm, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

As a result, deGrom will be shut down from throwing for two weeks. He'll need to ramp up his throwing program after that, and it's possible he may not return until September at the earliest.

An MRI showed no structural damage to his ligaments, general manager Zack Scott said, according to Newsday's Tim Healey.

DeGrom threw a bullpen session Thursday and felt strong for most of it, manager Luis Rojas said earlier Friday, according to SNY.

The forearm injury has halted what's been a historic season on the mound for deGrom. The two-time Cy Young winner owns a 1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, and 146 strikeouts to just 11 walks across his 15 starts this year.
