Reds' Garrett: Cubs' Baez should 'thank me' for not reacting to being mocked

Amir Garrett thinks Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez should be glad nothing happened after he mocked the Cincinnati Reds reliever following a walk-off hit Monday.

"I'm all for the (trash) talk and stuff like that," Garrett said Tuesday, according to Ryan Herrera of MLB.com. "That's fine, that's 100% fine. But my whole thing is with the Cubs, I remember Javy saying that I need to react toward my team more so (than) them.

"Last night was directly toward me, which is fine, but whatever you preach, you should stand on that, you know what I mean? He didn't, and that was fine. He should thank me, because I didn't react because we'd have both lost money and got fined and got suspended and hurt our teammates. I wasn't gonna react."

Cubs manager David Ross said he spoke to the league, and a suspension isn't out of the question for Baez after the incident.

This isn't the first time Garrett and Baez have had issues with each other. The left-hander received a lengthy suspension in early May after a benches-clearing fracas that Baez caused while confronting him about showboating.
