Nationals DFA Lucroy after 5 games, activate Bell, Schwarber
The Washington Nationals designated catcher Jonathan Lucroy for assignment after five games with the club, the team announced Monday.
The move helps open up roster spots for the team to activate Josh Bell, Kyle Schwarber, and Josh Harrison off the COVID-19 injured list.
Lucroy, 34, was impressive over his short stint with the club, going 5-for-14 with one double and a pair of RBIs.
The Nationals also optioned infielder Luis Garcia and outfielder Yadiel Hernandez.
Bell, Schwarber, and Harrison are all offseason acquisitions and were sidelined to start the season. Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals will mark their Nationals debut.
Washington's season began with four postponements due to the team outbreak. Jon Lester remains on the COVID-19 IL.
The catching duties will now be managed by Yan Gomes and Alex Avila.
