Report: Paxton on Blue Jays' radar
The Toronto Blue Jays have been busy, and it doesn't appear they're done yet.
After agreeing to deals with George Springer, Kirby Yates, and Tyler Chatwood, the Blue Jays are turning their attention to starting pitching, and left-hander James Paxton is on their radar, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
Scott Boras, Paxton's agent, said his client was generating a "great deal of interest" before the southpaw reached 94 mph in front of at least 20 scouts during a December throwing session.
Paxton and the Blue Jays share some history.
Toronto drafted the Canadian 37th overall in 2009, but the two sides failed to agree on a signing bonus. The Seattle Mariners then picked him in the fourth round in 2010.
On May 8, 2018, Paxton also threw a no-hitter against the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre while playing for the Mariners, becoming only the second Canadian to record a no-no in big-league history.
The 32-year-old only appeared in five games for the New York Yankees last season due to a flexor strain, struggling to a 6.64 ERA in 20 1/3 innings.
In 2019, Paxton went 15-6 with a 3.82 ERA and 11.1 K/9 for the Yankees.
