Free-agent starting pitcher Trevor Bauer released a video on New Year's Eve in which he appeared to tease two potential landings spots in San Diego and Toronto.

"I love the San Diego area," the 29-year-old said in the video. He added: "I could spend time in San Diego, for sure."

He also confirmed he had a call scheduled with the Toronto Blue Jays.

"I got a call with the Blue Jays at 6," Bauer said. "I'm going to check in with them. Talk to their pitching coach and their high-performance coach ... and see what they have to offer, so that's moving forward."

San Diego is home to the Padres, who have been one of the most active teams of the offseason. They recently acquired pitchers Yu Darvish and Blake Snell in separate trades with the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays, and the club also signed Korean infielder Ha-seong Kim.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, have been linked to several top-tier free agents including Bauer, George Springer, DJ LeMahieu, and J.T. Realmuto.

Bauer won the National League Cy Young Award in 2020 while pitching for the Cincinnati Reds and is one of the most sought-after free agents on the market.
