Report: Japan's top pitcher Sugano to be posted Tuesday
The most accomplished pitcher in Japan is eyeing a job in Major League Baseball.
Yomiuri Giants ace Tomoyuki Sugano will be posted as of 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Teams will reportedly have until 5 p.m. on Jan. 7 to reach an agreement with Sugano.
The Giants revealed last week they'd allow Sugano to use the posting system to negotiate with MLB teams, a source told The Japan Times.
Yomiuri previously had a reputation for not posting its players but that changed last year when the club posted closer Shun Yamaguchi, who eventually signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Sugano owns a 101-49 record with a 2.32 ERA across 1,360 innings in eight seasons for the Giants.
The 31-year-old is also a two-time winner of the Eiji Sawamura Award, given to Japan's most impressive starting pitcher.
